Personal training provides individuals with an opportunity to mold healthy and physically active lifestyles, and can be widely appealing for a number of different reasons. But in order to get to this point, a personal trainer must work on their business sense to build up the necessary clientele. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always come naturally, so we’ve come up with a few tips on how to write a personal trainer bio to help you get started on your venture.
Tips for Creating a Professional Personal Trainer Bio that Attracts Clients
Define Your Audience
Before you can successfully create your bio, you must determine who you are trying to reach. Defining your target audience will help you to better tailor the content in your bio towards a specific demographic. For example, if you’re looking to specialize in cross-fit, you’ll want to clarify that you’re focusing on training through a variety of exercises from different disciplines. If you are focusing on a traditional training approach, you’ll want to capitalize on the ability to properly guide people through weight and strength training techniques.

The Structure of Your Bio
Now that you have successfully defined your audience, introduce yourself to your potential prospects. In your introduction you can include your name, job, specialty, passion, philosophy and how you got started. Don’t be afraid to share anything else that may help to humanize your bio. For example, if you previously struggled with a personal challenge, this may help your prospect feel more connected and empowered to start their own journey.
Your education and certifications are also essential to your bio; not only will certifications add and boost your credibility, but will give your prospects insight into your experience and abilities. If you have acquired more than one certification so you can serve an entirely new client base, like Pilates or TRX, be sure to indicate that in your bio.
Your bio also provides a perfect opportunity for you to share your general availability and the best way to contact you. It’s also important to be clear and concise and avoid any unnecessary ‘fluff’ or jargon, as this may confuse or deter potential prospects from inquiring.
Don’t Be Shy, Sell Yourself
Take advantage of technology with an interactive bio—this is the chance to sell yourself, after all, so demonstrate your style of training with a short video. Potential prospects will get a sense of what they are buying before they inquire. This will also increase the number of serious candidates, while decreasing the number of prospects that may not find that your style of training right for them or their end goals. Don’t forget to include the top 3-5 reasons why your training approach is effective and include a testimonial or two to boost your credibility.
Last but not least, offer a complimentary session for the first ten people and give instructions for how they can take action and get started at the bottom of your bio. After all, you don’t want to neglect an opportunity to close a sale! With these tips in mind, you’ll have a fully-optimized personal trainer bio in no time!
